Hi future, current and former management consultants! I’m glad you have found me. Now, let me tell you what this substack is all about, and a bit more into who I am.
What this substack will focus on:
- Application & interview prep: What are the key aspects of an application, including resume and cover letter, that firms look for and why? How do I prepare for different fit questions? What do firms look for in the case? What are the different styles between MBB and other firms?
- Life as a consultant: What is life really like as a consultant? What are the biggest challenges, especially in the first year? What are the keys for success, especially getting promoted? What are the tradeoffs of staying in consulting versus leaving? Are Partners happy?
- Exit opportunities and life after consulting: What are the major exit options at different levels? What are some common regrets / mistakes? How to navigate this process?
- Other miscellaneous topics: Was it worth it? What is the best way to navigate a relationship while in consulting? Is McKinsey the best firm?
A bit more about me:
I have chosen to remain anonymous, but after earning an advance degree I decided to enter consulting. I was then at an MBB firm for several years in the US and exited as a project manager. While in consulting I was active in my office’s recruiting efforts, including interviewing candidates. After exiting to industry, I have coached many candidates from diverse backgrounds who have been preparing for MBB and other firms. I have a passion for teaching and helping people achieve their goals, so I hope this substack is of some help!
